Artist Statement
My work, 'forgiveness', represents my feeling and discomposure in exploring what is sometimes a very uneasy process: that of Forgiveness. To explore this concept I have used a mans jacket and filled it with spinifex, speaking of the discomfort of wearing the anxiety and grief of this processes. The embroidered words to represent the feelings and sensations of that awkwardness. However, this is but one aspect of working to find forgiveness, there is much more and the overall feeling for me is one of radiance and joy.
The 'Ties' are a further expression of 'wearing' the unease and awkwardness. Embroidered in combinations of Red White and Blue as well as Red Yellow and Black, the threads fix the small stones, soil, spinifex and bird feathers as stakeholders of this story and the place.
The photographic images are taken of a specific site in the Pilbara by Joshua Ledger in an attempt to place the work in the location of the tragedy.
